Form and Function

The objective of this project is to analyze function within a structure and to see if the structure’s form should express its function, or its own independent function.  This shows us a deeper understanding of form and function in architectural developments. Within this project we did 3 bridge prototypes and 3 functions, incorporated within one another. This gave the students an opportunity to have more than one solution to one problem. After analyzing different types of solutions, students picked which would be a better design to their solution. Our concept was to take a normal bridge and transform it into a moving bride with an opening of 30x40. Within my design I choose a truss bridge and  transferred it using a set of gears to be able to move the road bed.

3x3 Table

This table represents the possibilities that can be used to transform this bridge, by comparing it to different movable objects that will give off an idea of an entire new design for a fictional bridge . This table will help rank each possibility that can develop the design.
